1980: The Grand won by Charles River Rowing Association, U.S. in 6:24
1980: The Diamonds won by R. Ibarra (Club Nautico, Arg.) in 8:10

1981: The Grand won by Oxford U. and Thames Tradesmen in 7:15
1981: The Diamonds won by C.L. Baillieu (Leander Club) in 9:38

1982: The Grand won by Leander and London R.C.
1982: The Diamonds won by C.L. Baillieu (Leander Club) in 8:18

1983: The Grand won by London R.C. and University of London in 6:26
1983: The Diamonds won by S. Redgrave (Marlow R.C.) in 8:23

1984: The Grand won by Leander and London R.C. in 6:22
1984: The Diamonds won by C.L. Baillieu (Leander Club) in 7:57

1985: The Grand won by Harvard University, U.S. in 6:27
1985: The Diamonds won by S. Redgrave (Marlow R.C.) in 8:28

1986: April, the new Regatta Headquarters on the LEFT bank immediately above Henley Bridge were opened by the Queen.

1986: Henley Royal Regatta was extended to five days.
1986: The Grand won by Nautilus R.C. in 6:18
1986: The Diamonds won by B. Eltang (Den.)

1987: The Grand won by Soviet Army in 6:11
1987: The Diamonds won by P.-M. Kolbe (Ruder-Club Hamburg) in 7:52
1987: the Regatta Stewards bought Temple Island, the famous landmark at the start of the Regatta Course. Extensive renovation of The Temple, built by James Wyatt in 1771, has been completed and the important wall paintings in the main room have regained their original appearance.

1988: The Grand won by Leander and University of London in 6:17
1988: The Diamonds won by H. McGlashan (Melbourne Univ.)
1988: The Stewards Charitable Trust, to encourage and support young people (still receiving education or undergoing training) to row or scull was established. By 2005 it had done so to the extent of £1.2 million.

1989: The Grand won by Hansa Dortmund, W.Ger. in 5:58
1989: The Diamonds won by V. Chalupa (Dukla Praha, Czech.) in 7:23 (record)
